For most of its visitors, Rhodes is a place famous for the endless blue sea, the clean beaches and of course, the Old Town. While these qualities can’t be missed during your visit, there are also many alternative activities that can help you experience the other side of the island. Today we are going to have a look at some activities, which many locals prefer and are guaranteed to leave you with a huge smile!
For those who enjoy getting to explore a place by foot, there are some “must-go” destinations, suitable for both walking and running. These are the following routes:
-The 8km northwest side of Rhodes, starting from the Aquarium until Ialysos Village.
-The Monte Smith hill-road with a quick stop at the Ancient Stadium of Rhodes and the Temple of Apollo.
-Getting to the top of Mt Filerimos. (Recommended for advanced runners only, as it’s more than 30min of steep uphill.)
The island has many unexplored forests and dirt paths, used only during emergencies from the fire department. If renting a buggy or an SUV in general is a possibility, there are countless spots to get lost in the nature and visit places that very few people know. A great example of such a route is mt. Attavyros and the forest around Siana.
If someone is interested in extreme sports, there are many organized clubs to test your windsurfing skills. Most of them are located in the west side, where the wind and the waves are almost always helping. On the other hand, if someone is up to try some watersports, the right side where the waters are calm, offers many different sessions. From parachute flights dragged by boats to underwater scuba dives and jet-skis, you will undoubtedly find something to thrill you!
